Torture & Bliss — Fallokoch (2023)

Debut album. 7 tracks. Written largely during a training trip to Peachtree City. Bass compositions, odd time signatures, a rewrite that had to move keys to sound right, and a song with a melody that sat unfinished for eleven years.

Track Notes & Videos
Track 1
Oiioli

Written in the months following a trip to Peachtree City — my daughter and I put this together. The bass solo is one of the licks from earlier in the song; I had to re-learn it after writing it. Re-recorded sections that were initially patched up the first time through.

Track 2
Hilux

Written at Peachtree City during three weeks of work training. Inspired by WhistlinDiesel videos. Came together naturally — one of those sessions where it just works.

Track 3
Strombo Attack!

Originally written in E at Peachtree City, then rewritten in B after coming home. It sounded heavier. Naturally, I made it as heavy as possible.

Track 4
Project

Written during the final stages of mixing and mastering. New strings on the Les Paul, first thing I wrote with them. Wanted something more neutral — calming tones rather than the heavier direction of the rest of the album.

Track 5
Bliss

Next to last song written on the album — a variation of the ending of "The Veil of Perception." Liked what it became but it didn't fit the original song, so it became its own track.

Track 6
Sixes & Sevens

Started as experimentation with drum machines and synths. Liked the sound, committed to it. The main riff runs in alternating 6/4 and 7/4 patterns.

Track 7
The Veil of Perception and Dance of Reality

Written between 2012 and 2023 — the melody existed in 2012 but had no home for a decade. Fleshed out further in May 2022, bulk of the writing finished November 2022. About perspective: how we've collectively lost the ability to see things as they are.
